On campus

Library, labs, the Sullivan Fieldhouse, the Kehoe Forum after its $38 million rebuild, an art gallery, a theatre, and an eighteen hole disc golf course, a first within Canadian post-secondary institutions. Classes average fifteen students to one faculty member.

Where you live

Three residences: Cabot, Alumni Hall and Harriss Hall. Residence runs $2,380 to $4,300 a semester and meal plans $500 to $3,625. Off campus, budget around $1,000 a month for rent, food and bills.

Food and community

The students' union runs a Multicultural Hub, a food bank and a women's centre. Sydney sits in a community of roughly 130,000 people, with groceries, pharmacies and urgent care close to campus.

The weather, honestly

Winter runs from -5°C to 0°C and it snows. Summer is 20°C to 25°C. Spring and autumn sit between 0°C and 20°C. Most students say the first winter is the hardest part and the rest is fine.

Working and after

Working while you study, and after you graduate

Cape Breton University builds work experience into many of its degrees. What follows is what the university offers, and what the current rules allow.

What a study permit allows you to do on and off campus, following the Government of Canada's current rules.
Co-op puts you in paid, full-time work terms that count toward your degree. Business, arts, science and engineering technology programs are co-op eligible.
Post graduation work permit eligibility, which depends on your program and the rules in force when you graduate.
Career Services, on-campus Work Study jobs, and a Co-curricular Record that goes on your CV.

Immigration rules are set by the Government of Canada and can change. This page reflects the rules as they stand and is reviewed with CBU. Nothing here promises a job, a visa or permanent residency.
